New acquisition - A. P. Weis family photographs

mastershot has acquired a unique collection of glass negatives with impressions from Danish high society life around the 1900.

So far the photographer is assumed to be Helga Marie Weis (1877-1946) wife of
Andreas Peter Weis (1851-1935) one of the periods great cultural figures who had
great influence in the Danish artistic and cultural life and was a close friend of brewer Carl Jacobsen and painter Marie Kroyer.

The collection includes portraits and group shots of family and friends typical for the period but also photographs of a more experimental nature including "snap-shots" of the children in the garden.

It is clear that the photographer not only wanted to document different family life situations but explored the possibilities of photographic expression. Many of the photographs are of a very high artistic quality.

All glass negatives are stored in their original envelopes, many of them with handwritten notes on motif, date and exposure.
